Project description and documentation
The concept of the data rescue project which resulted in the formation of this data portal was born out of the EUR-OCEANS data rescue and transformation programme. This aimed to rescue scientifically important datasets which were previously unavailable to the scientific community.
This project identified the Discovery Investigations (1925–51) and Biological Investigations of Marine Antarctic Systems and Stocks (BIOMASS — 1980–1985) as potentially fruitful sources of such data. Following a proposal this project was accepted and funded for 6 months by EUR-OCEANS. BAS also viewed this area of research as a valuable opportunity to extract useful information which is potentially invaluable for studying long term and large scale change in the Southern Ocean.
Included on this page are documents giving extra detail of the project and documentation for the databases contained on the website.
