Marine Geology Collections - Information about datasets

BAS is not responsible for the content of external sites.

The British Antarctic Survey has collected nearly 500 marine sediment cores and 100 dredges from the waters around West Antarctica, the Antarctic Peninsula and the Scotia Sea. Working marine cores are held within refrigerated storage units onsite, while the archive collection is held at the UK national deep-sea core repository in Southampton. Dredge samples are held within the Survey’s main rock store.

Locality information and marine core metadata are maintained within the BAS geological database. These metadata link to visual core descriptions, sample preparations such as smear slides and analyses data.

For further information about the marine geology collections please contact Alex Tate or Hilary Blagbrough at the British Antarctic Survey.
