Description
Workshop on the dynamics and mass budget of Arctic glaciers / GLACIODYN (IPY) meeting
7 - 10 March 2010, Universitätszentrum Obergurgl, University of Innsbruck, Obergurgl, Austria
The Workshop is arranged by the International Arctic Science Committee - Network for Arctic Glaciology (IASC-NAG).
The purpose of the meeting is:
(i) to present and discuss new results on observations and modelling of the dynamics and mass budget of Arctic glaciers, including the Greenland ice sheet,
(ii) to plan and coordinate field work on Arctic glaciers with the aim of using the available infrastructure and logistics in the most efficient way,
(iii) to develop ideas for future projects and collaboration.
Participation is open to everyone, though numbers may be capped because of limitations on the size of the meeting facilities. For planning purposes registration is required (deadline: February 8, 2010 though earlier registration is advised). There may be a small registration fee. Contributions are welcomed in the form of short talks or posters. Presentations will be 15-20 minutes in length. For those who bring a poster, there will be time reserved in the program to give a short 2-3 minute introduction to the poster. 2.5 full days of talks and poster presentations are planned.
Abstracts: Those intending to attend the meeting should submit abstracts (maximum length 300 words) by email to Prof. Martin Sharp ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) no later than February 8, 2010. Abstracts should indicate whether an oral or poster presentation is preferred. The scientific programme will be made available at www.iasc-nag.org before the meeting.
Extended abstracts of the contributions will be distributed after the meeting. Deadline for the extended abstracts is 12 April 2009. This abstract should be a word file of 1 to 3 pages, may contain a table and one or two (colour) graphs/pictures.
Financial support: We have raised some financial support to enable young scientists to participate in the meeting. If you are interested in this please send an application to Prof. Martin Sharp ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The application should have your name, affiliation, age, supervisor, and a short description of your research project (5 lines). Please indicate the approximate amount of money you would need for travel and/or lodging. Reimbursement will be after the meeting.
Accommodation: We have pre-booked a number of rooms at the University Center Obergurgl and reservations should be made by sending an e-mail to Andreas P. Ahlstrøm ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).
