The first event of the programme, ICEFISH-2004 (May –July 2004), envisaged extensive fishing in the South Atlantic sector: Burwood Banks, Falkland Islands/Islas Malvinas, Shag Rock, South Georgia, South Sandwich Islands, Bouvetøya, and Tristan da Cunha, at depths ranging from tidepools to the abyss. Although autonomous, ICEFISH-2007 builds on the legacy of ICEFISH-2004. Many of the participating scientists will be those of ICEFISH-2004, ensuring continuity of the scientific focus of the programme.
