From March 17 – 20th, 2008, members of the IPY sub-committee for Education, Outreach, and Communication, working group co-chairs, and invited experts, met in Strasbourg to discuss the second year of IPY activities, identify energy that should continue beyond the ‘publicly expected’ IPY end date of March 1st, 2009, and through and beyond the publication and presentation of IPY science in 2010 and 2012. On the large side we anticipate improved and expanded observational networks, on-going data exchange practices and systems, and continued international polar science collaboration. On the smaller side we might find many informal networks and practical activities, including the IPY web site and other activities coordinated by the IPO, by Project Coordinators of various IPY Projects, and by IPY National Committees.
